Then, come back here to continue reading this new blog post which discusses part 2--home/property happy place suggestions. (If you prefer, you can read them in reverse order!) Let's find your happy place(s) today!
A happy place at home is wonderful, especially if time is extremely limited, the weather is bad, or you have limited mobility. When you start thinking about and trying out locations, you may find that you can designate at least two or three happy places at home. Definitely try to have one indoor spot and better yet, try to also create or designate one outdoor spot so that you can reconnect with nature.
First, take a good look at your bedroom. Can you clear all of the clutter from your bedroom? Aim for the minimalist look to make your room a sanctuary. Less clutter equals more calming. Keep furniture tops as clear as possible so that you can add a few things that are nature-related; these items will enhance the ambience. Some suggestions: something green, rocks, an essential oil reed diffuser (you can buy this or make your own!), candles or flickering battery-operated candles, and a Himalayan salt lamp. A small, comfortable chair with a beautiful, cozy throw blanket hanging on the edge would be useful or possibly a hope (wood) chest which you can cover with padding and material--this can do double-duty as a hamper. Again, these are just suggestions to help you get started with creating a happy place inside your home.
Next, you will want to designate (and possibly create or enhance) a spot outdoors on your property. Do you have some type of balcony, deck, and/or patio? Do you have a grassy area? Any of these will suffice. Think of how you can inexpensively create a paradise or oasis for yourself. Adding a palm tree or a beautiful flower/plant and a few stones may help set the scene for you in addition to a comfortable chair, a yoga mat, or a large towel/blanket. Do you prefer sun or shade? Where is the best location on your property to view the sunrise or sunset? What is the best time of day that will provide you peace and calmness in your environment so that you are able to pause and reflect for maximum refueling? There are numerous variables to consider and the ideal location as well as the optimal time of day may vary throughout the year due to the climate.
Whether you have a minute or an hour, do something that you enjoy while you are in your happy place. You could sit and take a deep breath or do any of the following suggested activities: meditate, do yoga, read, write, reflect, or just absorb all of the beauty nature provides in your environment. Do what feels best for you. Make it your intention to do this daily, or weekly if necessary. Don't delay--try to find your happy place today. It is essential for calming and rejuvenating your mind, body, and soul. Enjoy! :-)
