Where is there a local place (a spot) for you to take a break from the daily grind? Some place you could walk, drive, or bicycle to daily or weekly? Most of us will re-energize more completely if we find a special spot away from our home. (Stay tuned for Part 2 of this blog post--that is when we will talk about finding your happy place in your home or on your property!)
Maybe a library or a church is your happy place to rejuvenate? What may be even better for most of us: reconnecting with nature. Is there a park located near you? Maybe a waterfront property that is not heavily populated?
For some people, the ideal happy place would consist of many, if not all, of the following attributes: park area, waterfront property, possibly with a small beach, walking/running path, shade trees, benches (and/or logs, rocks, or open areas for folding lawn chairs or a yoga mat), birds, and beautiful views of the sunrise or sunset. A happy place like this would be so rejuvenating on so many levels.
Take in every bit of sensory experience that this happy place offers you. It will be healing. Walk to (or throughout) the location. Watch the beautiful sunrise (or sunset). See the grass, sand, water, trees, sun, clouds, birds, and flowers. Hear the wind, animals, and lapping water. Smell the damp scent of water and sand. Feel the breeze on your skin. Go barefoot for a little while and feel the grass, dirt, sand, stones, and seaweed beneath your feet for a wonderful "earthing" or "grounding" experience. Stand or wade in the water for a moment. Later, you can sit, stand, or do a few yoga stretches. Concentrate on your breathing, meditate, or just take in every beautiful detail of your surroundings. Spend as much or as little time as your schedule allows. Investing in yourself will be worth every moment of sacrifice in your schedule.
Start searching for your happy place today! Try new locations until you find one that really speaks to you. Going to this happy place daily, weekly, or even monthly will be so beneficial to your mind, body, and soul.
